A word from Jeff, the inventor...
I am a true and total fan of Formula 1 & ChampCar Racing. In fact, I go away on racing holidays when possible just to experience the speed and excitement of Motor Racing. I have a passion for Auto Racing and I love cars!
So, it was only natural that I would start on-line racing. It is totally a rush competing against other people from all over the world and winning races! Although, I didn’t start out winning right away. In fact, I started out poorly because the equiptment I was using to race on-line or off-line was not beneficial to winning. |

I used a normal desk chair, bolted steering wheel, pedals, and my computer. Each time I would race, my chair did not allow me to make the moves necessary to overcome other drivers and I actually ran off course a several times per race because of the restrictions. Often times, I would quit after one hour because my back became sore from sitting in a chair not designed for driving with no support. I could only handle one race at a time, if that. I thought, I may have to give up something I enjoyed immensely because my body could not handle sitting in that chair for hours on end.
Before I tell you about the evolution of the RFaction, let me explain what I do for a living. I own a company that makes parts for the automation, material service and medical industries. When we make parts, the precision must be exact so that the machine functions properly according to federal safety standards. Sometimes, several prototypes are created for the parts just to achieve the exact precision and specification for the machine. I continuously work on the part until it is perfect! I don’t want to be responsible for another person being injured on the job or a serious malfunction because I did not make the proper part. After all this is my business and I support more than my immediate family. Perfection is necessary to keep everyone employed. I’m telling you about my business because that is how the RFaction came to be. I didn’t want to give up on-line racing, I enjoyed it too much! So, having the background I do, I decided to reengineer my chair to see what I could do to make it more like driving in the real seat of a car. |

Research
I’ve done my homework. Believe me. I went in search of a chair and base in sporting good stores, specialty stores, and on the Internet. At first I wanted to purchase a setup but after examining all that is out there, I didn’t think it was worth $500 to order a cheap, plastic setup which would probably fall apart after a year of use, or a full blown cockpit which costs hundreds more and requires more space that most people have. The models were unfinished with poor craftsmanship. That’s why I decided to build my own. And the rest is history!
I want to share my design with you so that you can too enjoy simulated driving as it was meant to be and look like the professional you are while competing against other drivers from all around the world. |
